"There is a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in."

-- Leonard Cohen

I walk on pins
I walk on needles
I walk on gilded splinters;
I want to see what they can do...

"An unwritten page has such potential, don't you think?" he said. "As a writer? Anything could be shaped in ink upon that...substrate. A million worlds waiting to be conjured by the feathery flick of a pen across paper. And even after you've graved your artifice of order onto that blank slate, don't you find that there are always still the spaces between the words, the possibilities you can still read in the gaps between the lines?"

-- Hal Duncan, "Ink"

That's where my interest lies; between the lines. Welcome aboard, but please BYOS (bring your own subtext).
Keep reading. You might find me.

“I write to elucidate the ancient secrets of my childhood, to define my identity, to create my own legend. In the end, the only thing we have in abundance is the memory we have woven. Each of us chooses the tone for telling his or her own story; I would like to choose the durable clarity of platinum print, but nothing in my destiny possess that luminosity. I live among diffuse shadings, veiled mysteries, uncertainties; the tone for telling my life is closer to that of a portrait in sepia.”

--Isabel Allende

"As I have earlier said, the thing I love about New Orleans is that it tends to be deserted, and there you may find peace. It is in the quietude, the deserted streets, the green and eccentric palms. Shortly after five o'clock the business district is deserted, and you won't find a person on the streets, except for one fellow in a seersucker suit. He will be walking slowly down Gravier Street, smoking a cigar. Tending his own garden."

-- Nancy Lemann, The Ritz of the Bayou

I tend my own garden. I'm steeped like a fine China tea in alternate parts of hot water and history. Stir the sediment at the bottom of your glass, and see what stormclouds swirl up. Though I tend to keep my own counsel, I believe more truly than ever in the power of magic and serendipity that hooks us - all of us - together. Imagine a spiderweb universe of strung pearls, one reflected each in its other. Here, in this place, I found a set of linked chains that led me to my particular string of pearls, and the gems of friends I've met upon here. They've helped craft me, and my story, into a glittering, intricately-wrought finery that would be nothing more than glass and false sparkle if not for them.
Care to come along?

"Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself."

-- Rita Mae Brown

I'm a third generation Californian, native Angeleno, renegade storyteller, former dancer/bartender/bookstore clerk, now leveled up to actually managing a small independent bookstore by the beach. I own more books than you do, and I've read them all at least twice.
I live in a magical little town on the far north coast of California, out on the raggedy edge where the hills run toward the sea. Redwoods on one side, ocean on the other - it doesn't get any better than this.

ALSO: my journal is friends-only now. Please comment if you'd like to be added.
